Brief Biography
Professor Kevin Sykes is Director of the International Postgraduate Centre for Exercise and Nutrition Science and holds a personal Chair as Professor of Occupational Health and Fitness at the University of Chester.
He is also Programme Director of the MSc degrees in Exercise and Nutrition Science, Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and Weight Management - delivered in Chester, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mumbai and Dublin. (www.chester.ac.uk/cens)
He works closely with surgeons, physicians and other health professionals researching the effects of physical activity and healthy nutrition on prevention and rehabilitation from chronic diseases. He is author of the Chester Step Test – widely used for aerobic fitness assessments in the workplace, community and rehabilitation settings - and is one of the entry tests for the UK Fire Service. He has been a member of several Home Office Committees and Working Parties for the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Chief & Assistant Chief Fire Officers and the Prison Service and has worked closely with fire brigades, police authorities and other corporate organisations worldwide over many years.
He is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Obesity, the Westminster Diet and Health Forum and the National Obesity Forum and was 2007 Scientific Chair of the British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Prof Sykes is the author of 9 books and over 150 papers in scientific & professional journals. He is an international television and radio broadcaster, regular conference and public speaker worldwide and a columnist for the Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness Magazine. He has appeared on BBC Breakfast TV and made over 80, 30-minute TV programmes as resident ‘expert’ in health and fitness with Rosemary in series filmed for Granada, London, Carlton and Sky.
